The European Commission

The European Commission wants to make sure it complies with its own food safety guidelines.  Every day around six thousand meals are served to officials in Brussels.  As of 2001 the European Commission calls upon SGS Food Services to check food safety and hygiene in its kitchens and restaurants.  Food preparation and distribution for European officials takes place from a central kitchen in Evere.  The SGS inspectors check the hygiene at all levels : personnel, work environment, cooling units, etc.  The cleaning and disinfection of the kitchen equipment for instance is verified on the basis of microbiological indicators.  In addition, the SGS inspectors watch over the quality of raw materials, drinking water and ambient air.
